Speech sciences and visually impaired students

Ivan Kopecek

In the paper we discuss some problems of teaching visually impaired students speech science in the context of information technologies based on speech synthesis and recognition as well as on some methods of artificial intelligence, especially in relation with the software developed at the Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University Brno. We will briefly describe the speech oriented hypertext system AUDIS developed for blind users and the programming system DIALOG which uses speech interface and is oriented to analysing and programming natural language problems and algorithms (speech, text, dialogue). Both systems are used for computer-aided teaching visually impaired students at our faculty and they are also developed in co-operation with them.
