Preserving X-ray films of speech production

X-ray films played an important role in speech research in the last century. The images of the moving vocal tract are unsurpassed for the information they provide about speech coordination and phonetic categories. Unfortunately, these films are in danger of loss through neglect and deterioration of the films themselves. The present paper gives a summary of our attempt to preserve a large set of these films.
