The sound charts of Friedrich Rausch and their creator

Rüdiger Hoffmann

With the expansion of educational opportunities for the “deaf and dumb” (today deaf-mute or simply deaf), the need for specialized teaching aids also arose. Among these, the sound charts, which the deaf and dumb teacher Friedrich Rausch began publishing in 1903, stand out. This paper describes the Publishing history of the sound charts along with Rausch’s life as a teacher. Later, Rausch ran a successful company producing various other teaching aids, which will be discussed only briefly.
