We present an approach to the derivation of a formal statistical grammar of the phrase structure of conversational English. This grammar is derived automatically from court transcripts. We use this grammar as an aid in rescoring speech recogniser output and compare the results for similar interaction styles i.e. those within a court, and those found in parliamentary dialogue.
