Pitch synchronous calculation of acoustic cues using a cochlea model

Marcel de Leeuw, Jean Caelen

In the framework of an acoustic-phonetic decoding task, a pitch synchronous cochlea model has been developed for the calculation of acoustic cues. Included stages are outer- and middle ear, basilar membrane, inner hair cell potential, inner hair cell/synapse and a pitch detection module. The basilar membrane model is shown to have sufficient temporal resolution for a good time domain pitch detection. Possibilities for the amelioration of the discriminative quality of the acoustic cues, using a pitch synchronous measure, are indicated.
