A real-time speech data analysis system for data processing to support speech synthesis applications

Gerard Benbassat, Raj Gunawardana

Cost of products dedicated to generating: synthetic speech output has been low, since the release of the chip-set used in the Texas Instruments Speak & Spell learning aid in 1979. Since then, a number of such products have appeared in the market. The range of applications has widened, stretching from learning aids to communication aids for the handicapped. However, the cost and the effort required in processing the necessary data for a given application has been a major bottleneck in proliferation of potential voice response applications. This paper discusses a PC-based speech data processing facility, which could help overcome this bottleneck.
